Senator invites Yukoners to sign petition to terminate the long gun-registry

OTTAWA – Senator Dan Lang is initiating an online petition to let Yukon’s voice be heard in support of reintroducing a measure in Parliament to eliminate the long-gun registry.

“Since the defeat by only one vote of the measure last Fall to eliminate the long-gun registry, I have had numerous calls and emails of disappointment from Yukoners,” Senator Lang said. “Signing the petition is recourse for those who were disappointed with the results of the vote in the House of Commons.”

The petition will provide an avenue for Yukoners to express their concerns and ask to bring back to Parliament the issue of eliminating the long-gun registry.

“The Yukon Fish and Game Association is opposed to the long gun registry,” said Gordon Zealand, its Executive Director. “We would prefer these resources be allocated to increased policing or other avenues to actually reduce crime.”

The petition is available in the “Interests & Links” section on the Senator’s website,

“Looking ahead, I hope we will be successful this time around,” Senator Lang said. “It was so close last time.”
