It is my pleasure to bring you greetings from the Senate and I want to update you on my recent work. I have been privileged to represent the territory in the Senate of Canada, and within the Conservative Caucus since my appointment by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2009.
Since my appointment to the Senate, I have been especially proud to serve as a member of the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence and as chair since April 2013. This allows me an opportunity to champion issues pertaining to our brave women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as issues of northern sovereignty, safety and national security.
The work of the committee is televised and I invite you to tune in on Mondays between 1:00pm and 5:30pm EST.
As part of my role, I also serve on the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs which meets on Wednesday from 12:00pm to 1:30pm EST.
Additionally, I serve as a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources which examines legislation and studies issues related to energy, the environment and natural resources generally.
In addition to my work in the Chamber, I am proud to serve as a member of the Conservative Party’s Northern Caucus, as a member of inter-parliamentary groups: including as a member of the Executive Committee of the Canada-Japan Inter-parliamentary Group; a member of the Canada-US Inter-parliamentary Group; and founding chair of the Canada Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group.
I also strive to work collaboratively with Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Larry Bagnell, and our territorial government led by Premier Silver to make Yukon a great place to live, work, and raise our families.
I encourage you to visit the links on the right side of this page to learn more about my work in the Senate and what it means for the people of Yukon.
