Fellow Yukoners,

It is my pleasure to bring greetings from the Senate and I want to update you on my recent work. I have been privileged to represent the territory in the Senate of Canada, and within the Government Caucus since my appointment by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2009.
During this session of Parliament, I am proud to sponsor Bill C-42, Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act, in the Senate and am actively involved in ensuring that this legislation passes the Senate swiftly so that we can give our national police force the tools it needs to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Since my appointment to the Senate, I have been especially proud to serve as a member of the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence. This allows me an opportunity to champion issues pertaining to our brave women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as issues of northern sovereignty, safety and national security. The work of the committee is televised and I invite you to tune in on Mondays between 4:00pm and 8:00pm EST.
As a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources, I was involved in the tabling of a report on Canada’s Energy Future, entitled “Now or Never” and spoke on the report in the Senate in December 2012. I am also pleased to have published an op-ed in the National Post and the Whitehorse Star on the same subject. You can access this Report, my speech and my op-ed on my website. I also invite you to view the proceedings of this committee on the Parliamentary Channel on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 8:00 am to 10 a.m. EST.
In addition to my work in the Chamber, I am proud to serve as a member of the Conservative Party’s Northern Caucus, as Vice Chair of the Canada-US Inter-parliamentary Group, as Vice Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-parliamentary Group and as Vice Chair of Canada-Afghanistan Friendship Association.
I also strive to work collaboratively with Yukon’s Member of Parliament, Ryan Leef, and our territorial government led by Premier Pasloski to make Yukon a great place to live, work, and raise our families.
I encourage you to visit the links on the right side of this page to learn more about my work in the Senate and what it means for the people of Yukon.
